When will we Leave. Civil War in Iraq.

Honestly who never seen this coming. A civil war in a country so divided due to religion and just civil unrest. Yet we have freed who for what? For us to have our soliders die in setting up a puppet government in Iraq?

One of the highest-ranking generals in Iraq's new, U.S.-trained army was shot dead in Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military and Iraqi police said.
Major General Mubdar Hatim al-Dulaimi, commander of all Iraqi army forces in the capital, was killed by a sniper, police sources said. he was shot as he drove through western Baghdad.
As the commander of the 6th Division, among the first and biggest of Iraq's new army divisions formed by U.S. forces as part of their plans for eventual withdrawal, Dulaimi was among the most prominent officers in Iraq's security forces.
His troops have been in the front line of efforts for the past two weeks to prevent further sectarian bloodshed in the wake of an attack on a major Shi'ite shrine.
Iraqi leaders are concerned that further violence between Iraq's minority Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims could spark civil war.
The U.S. commander in Iraq, General George Casey, said in a statement: "This tragic incident will neither impede the 6th Iraqi Army Division from continuing its mission of securing Baghdad nor derail the formation of the government of Iraq."
Iraqi leaders are trying to form a unity government. But with parliament set to meet on Sunday for the first time since a December election, there is little sign of agreement.
President George W. Bush has said U.S. troops will gradually pull out of Iraq as local security forces take over. However, some Iraqi leaders, notably once dominant minority Sunni Arabs, fear that the armed forces are dominated by Shi'ites and Kurds and are themselves potential aggressors in any conflict.
The U.S. military said in a statement: "Mubdar had been visiting his soldiers in Kadimiyah and was returning to his headquarters when his convoy came under small arms fire attack."

So, you believe we should leave Iraq now?

We should have had some goals that were realistic. We have promised the moon to these folks and are in a no-win spot now, maybe from the start. In a country where 25% of the folks have oppressed 75% of the folks , it is gonna take a little more than storming the country and saying, "This is how we do it in Texas!" to change a history older than our country. Our options sure are limited now, the Iraqis aren't doing to well defending themselves and it seems as if they just keep sucking troops and dollars. Throwing more away? Call it quits? Just tell the rest of the world the US is gonna set policy in the region and take the rest while we are there? Somebody should have thought beyond pulling down the figure of Saddam and the next election.

Yeah I would say it looks that way. It would have been tough to predict that in the beginning however. Its tough for any administration to predict the future. This may end up being a mistake in the end but if Saddam wasn't removed I'm afraid the mistake would have been greater. There are times when every decision you make is wrong...GW may have fell into one of those situations. Lets hope the best can still be salvaged but I'm kinda like you spudsmac...we may need to take over the entire region and govern it Roman Empire style.

I believe that freedom and democracy is not a gift from the USA to the rest of the world but rather a gift from God to all mankind. Question is did God empower America to deliver that gift?

Then about 20-30 some years from now, tear down the wall and see if they act like civilized human beings.

I didn't mind the idea of changing Saddam as ruler, it just had been so long without any peace in the country that I thought the goals should have been more clearcut. We did exactly what the terrorists wanted, bled awhile and now the folks are looking at re-election and don't want to admit we are running out of options. A great victory for the terrorists, but to stay will only mean more of the same. The Iraqis will never take care of themselves.

I think that in today's world, it's every man for himself. Terrorist attacks left and right, wars here and there, mass murders and slaughters.

God's chosen people or not, Israel is still just as vulnerable as any other country in the Middle East.
